Undergraduate College Course
Boston is a city with a proud legacy of higher education. Undergraduate students in Northeastern University's Honors program were eligible to take a studio course taught by Dr. Kimberly D. Lucas on emergent technologies (including AI) and their implications for communities and governance before coming up with their own recommendations.

14 Northeastern undergraduate Honors students were selected to participate in this experiential learning course. Every week, students traveled across Boston to grapple with what AI is for them and for their communities. Students self-identified into teams focused on their various communities: students involved in college activities, aspiring STEM professionals, and students representing their cultural communities. By the end of the semester, student teams produced (1) policy memos directed at the City of Boston's Department of Innovation and Technology, focusing on how the Department can consider each of the above communities as it continues to lead the nation in municipal civic tech policy and (2) videos in the style of the Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics' "What the Tech?" series.
